Have A Nice Day

I've been a pretty rubbish blogger this year. Sitting down to write a post but letting things distract me or just putting it off until tomorrow, then the next day yaddayadda <insert more excuses> I'm not the most open and trusting person on the planet, so sitting down to write how I'm feeling isn't the most appealing thing. However I've gotten a little better thanks to the people I've 'met' online with their constant encouragement, whatever the situation.

Seeing that the Fourth Annual Diabetic Blog Week had come round again already to me was fate, and time that I got my butt back on here!

DBW was created by the amazing Karen at Bitter Sweet encouraging bloggers to share their own unique stories and insights on particular D (and non-D) related subjects. It's a great opportunity to connect with other PWD and see how they deal with their D. All of the sign-up information and post topics are available over at Bitter Sweet :)

As for little old me (24 next month.. Oh my freaking gawwdd!) I'm doing okay at the mo. I got my eye screening results back last month and have reversed the background retinopathy found last year =D

*do a little dance*
*make a little...
BACK TO TOPIC!

The holiday to Florida that I've been worrying and panicking about for months has sadly been and gone :( However it was a very different trip from the last one. I got advice from the Diabetic Nurse at my local surgery after finding various different methods of dealing with time zones etc online. She took note of everything I currently did and suggested sticking with injecting at UK time (around 4/5pm USA time). After a few bumpy days of BG results (and one case where I remembered my Lantus 3 hours after it was due.. Doh!) things started to settle. I actually had a few no hitter days!

I went with a completely different attitude, I wasn't going to work my holiday around my D. D was going to have to fit in with me. Last time I was constantly testing and correcting, this time I tested when I needed to. I was a lot more relaxed, a lot more in control and had a lovely time with my family. My parents commented a couple of times of the massive change since our last vacation, which was lovely to hear :)

The bloods for my latest HbA1c were taken before I left for my hols (just in case it was a disaster) so I'm hoping for a reduction since last time, my average when I left was 7.9 so fingers, toes and everything crossed. My BGs have taken a few days to settle after getting home, so I'm now trying to get back into the swing of things and get my average back down.

I've also found an event I'm going to take part in later this year to raise money for Diabetes UK (nothing hardcore like a marathon I'm afraid!!). A local fun run is being held in October, so expect a post once I've signed up :)

It's good to be back.

If someone where to ask me which of the Seven Dwarves I am today, it'd have to be

SNEEZY!!!!

For the past few days I've had a stinking cold which has meant lots of tissues, lots of coughing, glucoaster BG results and being off work. I hate being ill! A cold for me now doesn't mean a couple of days of sniffles and then I'm bright as a daisy again. It knocks me on my arse for at least a week, I go through two or three packets of cold/flu tablets and my nose ends up looking like a very famous reindeer...

It always happens just before I have my flu jab too! Mysterious coincedence or evil Diabetes Fairy sitting on her black cloud cackling away??

My 30-day average has now gone back to over 9.0mmol and my HbA1c is in December so will end up the same again or higher. I'm starting to dread my appointment already and I haven't even had the date through.

It's days like today where I really really wish I didn't have Diabetes. I hate it.

On It Like A Car Bonnet!

After yesterday's slightly serious post, I thought I'd give a proper (and more positive) update on me and my beloved *cough* D!

Since leaving my previous job in December and starting my new job - also in December - my levels have improved dramatically. I'm no longer hitting the mid-teens or twenties on a regular basis. I'm back to being in range for most of the day, and it feels pretty amazing!

I'm feeling so much more confident about how I manage my D again, and am almost back to where I was after my PDAC course last year. Yes I don't carb count precisely and sometimes I guesstimate a little bit. Occasionally it'll pay off and others it won't, but with D it is about the long game. It isn't a sprint. So if I can keep going with the odd early-teen result then that's fine by me :)

I have some fantastic people in my life now, who I can rely on, trust with everything and love very much. D is also about a support network and I definately have that now. One person in particular wiggles to mind! And I'm incredibly lucky.

January has been such an awesome month so bring on the rest of 2012! :)

Back to Black

So I've finally decided to bite the bullet and write this post. It's been a few weeks/months coming but hopefully sharing will help... *gulp*

Since getting back off my holiday I've been incredibly D focused, trying to get back on track with my BG levels and feeling more in control of things. I've had the occasional blip along the way with both bad hypo's and one bad hyper a couple of weeks ago but levels are back to pre-holiday.
PHEW!

My moods are yet to return to normal though. Losing control on holiday got me pretty low and upset, it was like I'd gone back to square one after almost two years and I hated it. I was snappy one minute and crying the next in sheer frustration. None of which is great in the Sunshine State and Disneyland where everyone is happy happy happy!

It's not as frequent, but it's still very much there.
Diabetes burnout or depression? Both? I don't know.

I pretty much wake up in a 'black' mood, irritable for no reason, lethargic, introverted and generally not nice to be around. Nothing bad has happened though, it's like waking up on the wrong side of bed as some people say. Little things can set me off, crying, angry and generally feeling alone (even though I know I'm not). Thoughts of living with D for the rest of my life enter my head and I question if I'm strong enough to do it?

Since been diagnosed I got on with it, I didn't really grieve if that makes sense.. I went back to work within a couple of days and that was that. As my parents still don't know a huge amount about my condition I don't really tell them how scared I am sometimes about D and its possible complications..

I'm hoping that the PDAC course next month will help me with my emotions and how to deal with them properly. I'm a bugger for bottling things up and not telling people how I'm feeling. I'm trying though. I try and be open with Amy as much as a can, even though its still a bit alien to me and it does help. Hopefully these 'black moods' will become less and less frequent and will just be a once in a blue moon thing..

Is It Just Me?

As some of you already know I went abroad in May and suffered with stubborn high blood sugars for 95% of the trip, numerous corrections, leaving me a bit of a tired and emotional mess for a few weeks.

Before I left for my trip, the general consensus  from my DSN, Consultant, and other PWD was that hot weather reduces your BG so you need to reduce your insulin as the heat and exercise will absorb it much quicker...

At my Grandma's today we were talking about it and my Dad turned to me and said "did anyone else say that they've had a similar experience  to you whilst going on holiday?"

Ummm...

Sometimes it's great being unique and different from everyone else..but with something like that, another person going yeah I know exactly what you mean would have been brilliant and a bit of a relief. My parents were awesome but didn't really know what to say or how to help me =/

Have any of you suffered with this as well? Or had your D go against what everyone said making you feel like the odd one out?

Brighton With The Betes

Last weekend was the annual forum meet in sunny Brighton :)

Me and Amy decided a few months ago to make a weekend of it, as we'd never been to Brighton before, and stay for a long weekend so we could have a little holiday and a proper catch up with the forum D-Peeps!

The hotel was pretty basic but clean, and unfortunately didn't come with a mini-fridge.. luckily I'd sorted my Frio bag for my spare pens!! After a while settling in and unpacking we decided to go have a wander and explore our new surroundings (we were literally across the road from the beach).

Diabetes: "Oh I'm sorry, you've had it easy all day so I'm going to throw in a hypo! Moo ha ha"

About an hour and a half went by with me testing and scoffing the jelly beans until I reached the low 5's so off we went! The pier was about a 10/15 minute walk away along with the beach bars/shops and the city centre was about the same. We nipped back to the hotel to get our gladrags on - and I had to give a correction as had shot up to 14mmol!! - went to the pier to have a look round and grabbed some food.

Have to admit I was a little wary of the deckchairs as I've seen plenty of You've Been Framed clips of people falling straight through on their butts! But I stuck with it and even did my jab right on the middle of the pier! :D

Visited a couple of local bars (diet coke for me obv.) and then hit the hay after 11. Me being the clever soul I am had no idea how loud things would get and how noisy god damn seagulls can be!! Took until half 4 in the morning to finally get some sleep...

I'm sodding awful not great when I've had no sleep, as Amy found out on Saturday morning.. :)

But we did make it to the meet! (Did have a shower and go on some rides to wake me up a bit more). As this was my second one it was a lot less nerve wracking and I was actually chatting to new people instead of going all shy and quiet. I love being with other PWD because you can share your stories all day long and have a giggle without being asked 'are you sure you can have that?'. Due to my serious lack of sleep I started flagging by the afternoon so we did leave early and ended up having a mid-afternoon nap followed by an indian takeaway eaten with teaspoons!

Overall I had a brill weekend and my D behaved about 85% of the time which I'm pretty pleased with. Just wish I'd have had a better night so I could have had longer at the meet! *frowns*

Thank you Amy for putting up with me this weekend, it's not all been plain sailing but you've kept me smiling and have been an awesome BFF/adopted pancreas. I really enjoyed myself, so Brighton next year? ;)

Balderdash And Piffle

Yesterday was the seventh annual Chap Olympiad in London's Bedford Square Gardens (my second) :

THE CHAP OLYMPIAD. Saturday 16th July, London. The nation's most challenging sporting occasion - if your idea of a challenge is pitting your finest trouser creases against another man's, or seeing who can hurl a plate of cucumber sandwiches with the most panache. The Chap Olympiad is open to all comers, male or female, moustachioed or clean shaven, top drawer or bargain basement, just so long as you are keen to cut the mustard on the field of drachms.

It's one of the most surreal days out you can have but brilliant! Am already looked at potential outfits for next year :D

Our day started at around half 8 (as we were intending to help set-up our Subs stand) and by the time we got into Kings Cross the heavens opened. The entire event is outside without much cover so we were a little worried that everything would be cancelled...

Everyone persevered despite the awful weather and at 12pm the gates opened. It was great to see so many people arrive complete with picnic baskets, waterproofs and umbrella's, and within a couple of hours the sun came out so on went the events and dancing. It was a credit to both Gustav and team!

Unfortunately we didn't get to see as many events as last year (where we had front row seats) as we were working selling subs, books etc however we met the lovely Gustav (Editor) and the slightly naughty Atters (a regular contributor to the mag), and we even sold some wares within a couple of hours!

Q How did D react to such an awesome day out?
A Badly, very very bad.

We each had an Angus burger for our dinner (which were scrummy) and mine was with a little burger relish. I injected about 6u in my leg - through my tights which was very strange - as the burger was homemade so a little bigger than supermarkets ones. I was 6.5mmol before dinner so decided to test again at around 3pm to make sure everything was going okay.

28.4mmol are your fking kidding me?

I almost cried then and there on the spot. How could this have happened? I felt so ill for the rest of the day and worried both Fliss and Amy. I injected another 6u in my leg and sat back down in a daze. We decided to call it a day at around 4pm and walking back to the tube station I felt woozy, wobbly and like someone had rammed my head through a brick wall.

Delays on on of the tube lines meant walking to Covent Garden to grab the tube to Kings Cross, I grabbed a couple of Ribena cartons and downed one within seconds. I had to walk holding Amy's hand to steady myself (sorry again for almost cutting your circulation off Aims!) and felt a little better when we eventually got on the train home.

Tested again on the train, 13mmol. Better. Tested again when at home 5.4mmol. Phew.

Had some tea and then went off to bed at about 9 as was absolutely exhausted. But D had one last surprise for me. Another high? Nope, a hypo! 2.2mmol

Went to town on some jelly babies and went to sleep. Not the most responsible thing to do after such a bad day with D, but my body had reached it's limit.

Woke this morning to 9mmol, not bad considering the past 24hrs!

What caused the mahoosive high? Burger relish? Fresh air? Too many chaps in one garden?

Bah, you're a bitch Diabetes and I hate you for ruining a day I'd looked forward to for about a year.

Birthday with the Betes

So Friday was my 22nd birthday! (yikes 22!!)

My second birthday with the D and it was frigging awesome! Even the diabetes fairy gave me a break and my highest BG was 9.0mmol.

*does a celebration jig*

I was treated by the guys & girls at work to some beautiful homemade cupcakes made by Mooroo cakes, which were D-friendly, so I decided to test before and after eating to see how my sugars would react:
Before super amazing mint sparkly cupcake: 7.8mmol
1 and a quarter hours after: 7.5mmol
Two hours after: 8mmol

I was super chuffed with these considering I didn't inject anything, Mary who made the cakes was brilliant and even carb counted them for me. 12g per cupcake which includes the frosting! My parents couldn't tell the difference between the altered ingredients and soon scoffed down on them too :D

If you live in Lincolnshire and would like to order one of these gorgeous cupcakes or a novelty cake please contact Mary/Rosie on mooroocakes@hotmail.co.uk or search 'Mooroo cakes' on Facebook.

The Diabetes Fairy was even nice to me when I went out for an evening meal with friends & family (yes I know, I was shocked too!). I sampled Indian, Chinese and Italian along with dessert and a couple of drinkies but went to bed on a BG of 9.0mmol.

Maybe I'm getting the hang of this carb counting thingy?!

I think running around after an excited little puppy monster is also helping to get my sugars back under control after my holiday. My meter average before holiday was 7.9mmol, post holiday was 9.8mmol and it's now gone down to 9.1mmol. Not a huge reduction but I'm getting there and determined to get back to where I was a couple of months ago. I really want my HbA1c to be lower than the last one after sticking at 8.4 for months on end. Felt so good going to 6-monthly appointments instead of 4 and I want to keep it at that..

Ooh before I forget, because I got D-friendly cupcakes I decided to make a very D-unfriendly cake for everyone at work... and before you ask yes I WAS sober when I decorated it :)

The Good, The Bad, And The Puppy!

Apologies for the recent lack of posts, it's been a busy/tiring few weeks both D and non-D wise!

We recently got a puppy called Winnie who's now about 10 weeks old. Very tiny and seriously cute but is still getting used to being away from her family so still whimpering and crying when she's left on her own. A couple of broken nights along with the early shift has meant me feeling like a zombie most of the week!

But how can you stay mad at this little face?

Had a couple of nasty hypo's this week (both below 2.5mmol) which got me down quite badly, to the point where I almost burst into tears after 10 minutes of being at work. When I'm that low I seem to lose control and turn into a dustbin, eating everything and anything I can get my hands on until I feel less shaky (which isn't a good idea at all). The second night I did this it rebounded and in the morning was over 20mmol.

FML.

Since getting back off holiday I've tried so hard to get back on track and its totally cocked up again. I'm fighting to get my 30 day meter average under 10mmol when before it was lingering around the high 7/8 mark!

My levels during the day are between 4 and 10 which I'm really pleased with but it doesn't seem to be making any difference to my meter average :(

Am feeling a bit better today after being very pissy for most of the week, it's my birthday next week (the big 22) and then I have the Chap Olympics next month along with my second forum meet! Plus I'm getting D friendly cupcakes!!!

You want another picture of Winnie?

Oh go on then... :D

Disney's Newest Ride.... The Glucoaster!

I've been a naughty blogger recently *slaps wrist* Not really wanting to post about my D experience abroad but knowing that it'll help in the long run... so put it off for a few days.

Apologies in advance for a more serious, negative post!

As some of you know, on my last holiday to Florida I was a few weeks away from being diagnosed with D so felt pretty awful for the majority of our trip. This time I was extremely nervous/anxious about travelling with D and how it would behave.

Before going, people said that I'd have to reduce my insulin because of heat absorption, exercise etc. So on my first proper day in the Sunshine State that's what I decided to do (trying to be one step ahead). D didn't like that at all, and despite a good walk around Universal Studios for over half a day my sugars sky rocketed. Admittedly I did have a cooked breakfast from a Ponderosa (which was soooooo good) but not an American portion!

This is how my body continued to deal with the increasing heat for the rest of my trip. I quickly upped my dose and tried to stick to some sort of routine with meal times (which isn't really what you want on holiday). But my parents (Super D-Rents) were great about it and really supportive. Stopping every now and then in the shade so I could test and correct and finding places that didn't just serve burgers and fries.

I'd love to say that I kicked D's arse into utter submission but I didn't. I folded and broke down more and more. I hated it more than ever, knowing this time what was wrong with me but not being able to fix it. Constantly testing and correcting meant my fingers were sore and my stomache was covered in tiny bruises. My patience wore thin and by the end of an evening I got snappy or emotional. At one point I asked my parents to hit me over the head with a shovel and have done with it. Funny now looking back but at the time I really meant it.

Almost a week later and today I've had all readings under 10mmol for the first time since I went away so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'm getting back on track..

This isn't to say my holiday was a complete wash-out!

The time in-between testing was great and it was great being back in Orlando and apart from worrying about me, my parents also had a great time :) I went on lots of rides that I haven't before (insane waiting times ruled out Harry Potter rides/shops which was a complete bummer) and even held a little alligator called Oscar!

My Frio bags worked a treat to and from the UK and during my entire holiday the only reason for being stopped was for having suncream in my handbag at Orlando airport! Felt like a non-D person not being stopped for having pens & needles in my manbag which was nice :)

I think it'll be a while before I go anywhere long haul again, but at least I can say I had a go and learnt from it..

Giggle Monster

This week has been a pretty awesome week (excluding my earlier monday wobble):

Good weather
Support from friends & family
Lots of laughing (and crying with laughter)
Two Bank Holiday weekends in a row
Reasonably good levels

My retinal screening appointment wasn't as bad as I thought, and was over fairly quickly! For anyone who hasn't had this done, you do a brief eye test and then the eye drops are given to dilate your pupils ready for camera time! Pop yourself in the little head-rest machine thingy and follow the light whilst the camera takes the pictures. Typical me though, I forgot the sunglasses!

The procedure itself was over in under half an hour, which did surprise me and my mum however now comes the anxious wait for my results. The chap who did it said within 4 weeks... in 4 weeks I'll be on holiday so I really really hope it doesn't take that long. Although saying that, if its bad news, I'd rather have a great holiday then deal with the crap then xp

My hayfever is starting to kick in now too (yes I'm not happy enough with just diabetes, gotta have hayfever too..) which I think is affecting my morning levels. My 22u of lantus - leg site - is still doing its thing but I'm waking to between 9-10mmol which isn't the worst I've woken up to, but still not going in the right direction.. =/

There are a few people in the DOC suffering at the moment with depression amongst other things, and when this song came on it kinda made me think of them. Certain lyrics always make me think of me and the D, and makes me wanna kick its butt a bit more.

So DOC this one's for you xx

Hey hey girl, are you ready for today?
You got your shield and sword
'Cuz its time to play the games
You are beautiful
Even though you're not for sure
Don't let him pull you by the scar
You're gonna get your feelings hurt, yeah

You can push me out the window
I'll just get back up
You can run over me with your eighteen wheeler truck
And I won't give a
You can hang me like a slave
I'll go underground
You can run over me with your eighteen wheeler but
You can't keep me down, down, down, down

Bazinga!

Happy Mothers Day! Hope the D-Fairy is playing nice :)

I've had a pretty rocky few days with the D, which is why it's been a while since my last post. Today's the first day I feel 100% and not like absolute shite.

Thursday morning started just before 7am and got a 3.x pre-breakfast.

WHAT THE FUDGE?!

I've never ever woken up low before. Normally I'm bouncing off the walls if I get a 5 or 6, because they happen once in a blue moon! As I was on the early shift starting at 8am I got my breakfast ready (weetabix) and reduced my Novo then off to work. Got to about 10/11am and I felt the early hypo signs so grabbed a couple of jelly beans (cherry & bubblegum isn't a good combo FYI) but after 20mins or so I didn't feel any better.

Did I mention I hadn't got my meter with me? Super D Fail.

So more jelly beans go down the hatch and as it gets nearer to 12pm my friend Amy is pretty worried and offers me a lift home. But nooo I have my stubborn D 'I can do it myself' head on, so I politely declined.

Mistake no. 2.

I did manage to get home okay and tested straight away. Result was a 3.x and a god awful migraine! Had my dinner and again reduced my dose slightly, just to be on the safe side. Got back to work and tested after 1/2 hours. 7.x on first test and 9.x on the second. PHEW! Now just a cracking headache to deal with. No tears at work either, which I was quite proud of!

Got home just after 4pm (then came the tears along with an hour long nap) and pre-dinner test was 4.4 but went hypo again at 8/9pm. Went completely OTT with the hypo treatments as was so tired and exhausted. It was a binge on all the wrong stuff, which made me feel super guilty and sicky afterwards. Not good... however I went to bed on a 9.x which was a bit of a surprise.

Felt the after effects on Friday, with a dull headache and feeling ill. Luckily I had a day off work so could rest. Only one hypo before lunch and felt a lot better towards the end of the day.

The things I've learnt from this are:
1. Diabetes is a bitch.
2. I need a spare meter at work in case I forget.
3. I need to accept help when it's offered or ask if I need it.
4. I'm as stubborn as a mule at times.
5. Bazinga is great if you need cheering up :)

Being A Girl Sucks Sometimes...

Yes I am talking about that.

You get your levels just where you want them throughout the day and then suddenly 12.4 pops up for no reason. My mind starts thinking what I've eaten, how much I've injected or maybe I've caught a cold bug? Then the penny drops.

Being a girl sucks a lot.

I hate the effect on my sugars, it drives me insane nearly every time!! I can go from 12 to 4 in a couple of hours or even climb 4mmol in under an hour despite some extra insulin on board. I think thats what caused the hypo's in the last few days, which lowered my meters 14 day average :(

On the plus side I've been off work all week so have been doing more exercise, using the Wii and having a wander in the woods. Think I actually caught the sun as well today! Also ordered myself a Zumba fitness workout on the Wii which looks soooo much fun. Really hope the weathers this nice for the forum meet in a couple of weeks :) Luckily my all over the shop levels will be over by then.. awoohoooo

How Do You Do It?

How do you explain D terminology to your friends/family when they have that 'Huh?' look on their faces after you test?

I had to explain hypo's and hypers to the girls at work yesterday, as I spent the majority of the morning under 4mmol. Luckily a few jelly beans did the trick along with the burger and chips I had for my dinner. YUMMY :D

My short way of explaining was hypo = low (with a low voice and hand gestures) and hyper = high (with high movement and more hand gestures). They know I keep jelly babies and coke etc in my top drawer but I think the look on their faces has made me realise that I need to keep a spare kit and instructions on what to do in an emergency, in my top drawer as well.

A few weeks ago I was talking with another colleague about First Aid and if something should ever happen to me. His answer was mouth-to-mouth and a Mars Bar! My mouth fell open and burst out laughing.. I said erm no thanks just call 999 and explain that I'm Type 1. I think I got a little leaflet from the JDRF pack that I can use so will definately be filling it in asap!

My sugars at the minute are still doing good during the day :) struggling a little with my Lantus still and injection sites in my upper leg, but over the past couple of nights I've upped it to 20-24u which seems to work although it's a big increase from the 14u I use for my stomache!

I'm doing more exercise now at the weekends going to the woods with Amy and her doggies (Robbie licking his nose and Basil behind him) for 1-2 hours which is great, especially as the weathers been so nice. Although leggings and pink wellies do look a bit weird xD

Only half a day at work tomorrow then off until next Monday! Looking forward to some baby lie-ins and doing a bit of Just Dance on the wii to shift some pounds!

Spring Fling?

hey folks!

so it's nearly the end of february ( which is such a dull month - apart from tomorrow which is my dads birthday =D ) and my levels are still behaving themselves..

<insert shocked face here>

it's my first spring without a honeymoon period so i'm wondering if this is just a seasonal dip or am i finally getting a bit control over my levels?? maybe the diabetes fairy is just teasing me for a few weeks xp

my meters 14 day average is currently showing 8.8 - which to most is high, but a few months ago it was 10.x most of the time. so i'm really pleased right now!

did have a slight panic on friday about my eyes. had some black spots floating around in my vision for a couple of hours which freaked me out. not had any over the weekend so i'm hoping it was just a one-off. apparently the mobile eye screening unit will be in town soon so i think i can hang on till then. should it happen again i'll definately be pestering my DSN!

i have pretty bad eyesight already (short sighted) so the thought of any problems with my eyes does send me a bit panicky.. if i don't hear anything in the next couple of week i think i'll visit my optician, which will hopefully ease things a little.

nothing is ever simple with diabetes!

enjoy the rest of your weekend :)

Gerrard Way Is Dancing On My Head...

hi folks

hope the diabetes fairy is being nice to you :)

apart from a couple of blips, she has been (strangely) nice to me for most of the week! from tues to fri all my my readings were under 10! in the words of Janice from Friends..

Oh
My
God.

only realised the other day and nearly fell off my chair! of course this is just before my DSN meeting on wednesday - typical!

my DSN at my local surgery is sooo lovely, i've had a rough few weeks non-d wise but having a chat with her made me feel a lot better. i've not missed the mobile retinal screening van yet and it's 'supposed' to be arriving in town within the next few weeks, so i can finally have my first screening! she looked at my readings and said that they are improving but i still need to reduce my morning levels. i'm to keep to 14u of lantus a night for a few days to see what that does to my levels, and if they are still high to increase by 2u etc. so far though i'm sticking to the 14u and it's doing the trick!

*does a jig*

now for the blips.. last night was the My Chemical Romance concert at Nottingham (my first ever concert/gig) and before i go into D details..

IT WAS FREAKING AWESOME

they played for over 2 hours with a varied set-list and were amazing. felt like i had gerrard way dancing on my head for most of the day but now i feel a bit more human :D support bands were the blackout and lostalone, not heard of either of them but did enjoy the blackout.

it took us a while finding somewhere nearby to eat so by the time i tested i was 3.9, no hypo symptoms but obviously wanted to eat sooner rather than later. so got some food at the bowling place next door and off to the concert we went, didn't give myself a lot of novo as i knew i'd be jigging about a lot. finished at half 11, and i was pretty hot and wired so tested again and the result was 16!!

adrenaline or not enough insulin before evening meal?? who knows ¬_¬

gave myself a little correction before the journey home and my lantus halfway home, re-tested again before collapsing in my bed and i was 10.7 ^.^ plus waking level this morning was 7!!

keeping my fingers crossed that these good levels continue!

Special Delivery

hey folks

hope you're enjoying your weekend :)

well my two days have gone super fast and i'm back to work tomorrow...

sugars were great on thursday and despite a small blip, i managed to stay in 6s and 7s throughout the day. friday was the complete opposite. woke up high and stayed that way until mid-afternoon when i dropped to 3.8.

i'm either going hypo in the night (a comforting thought) or i'm coming down with another bug.

i hate being stuck high, felt like i'd taken two steps and about 4 back so got a bit upset. i should be enjoying my time off instead of checking my blood sugar every hour and worrying whether boots will get more test strips in for me earlier than planned. fingers are still a bit fragile after friday as my new finger pricker is an ickle bit lethal!!

sugars have been behaving since, so i don't think it is a bug. have made an appointment with my DSN this week to discuss it. the thought of not waking up during night hypo's is a little worrying to say the least.

what has cheered me up this weekend is the arrival of my personalised DiabeTees t-shirt, which i shall model when the weathers a little warmer :D love the colour and fits really good too, not long to wait for it which is always a bonus! plus if you're in the US and would like a t-shirt too you can visit http://www.diabetees.spreadshirt.com/

bring on the summer weather!!

DSMA Feb Blog Carnival

hey folks

hope you're well :)

i've had another pretty awful non-d related week which has resulted in more stress and tears..

however i'm determined that the rest of this week is going to be okay and stress isn't going to be affecting my levels this weekend!

anyways, back to the blog title.. i recently discovered DSMA (Diabetes Social Media Advocacy) on twitter and have been reading through a number of the discussions and points of views from other members of the DOC which i've found really interesting, as well as new blogs to read!

the latest blog on the website is the DSMA blog carnival and this months topics is....

"The most awesome thing I have done in spite of diabetes is...."

yet to come! i've only had diabetes for around 18 months (officially) and yes i'm still here, not totally insane, getting used to the appointments, carb math, testing etc. i'm going to florida in may this year which will be my first holiday away as a diabetic, as i've mentioned before my last holiday was a few weeks before my diagnosis so it wasn't a great time :(
i'm hoping to do lots of awesome things in the future, some of them little like injecting in public or some of them big like going abroad for 2 weeks or going to a My Chemical Romance concert in 2 weeks time ^.^

who knows what the future holds? :)

this post is my february entry in the DSMA blog carnival. if you'd like to participate too, you can get all of the information at http://diabetessocmed.com/2011/introducing-the-dsma-blog-carnival/
