Blue

Apologies for the lack of posts during Diabetes month. It's been a weird and wonderful few weeks and although I've neglected my blog a little, I have been wearing my blue and telling the people who asked why. I even had the bestest person I know wearing blue almost every Friday as well :)

I didn't take photo's of every single blue outfit, but I did get little Winnie involved one Friday so here it is!

(She was awake at the time I promise!) If I weren't working each Friday I'd have gotten some blue streaks, who knows maybe next year..?

So here's the little update on me:
About six weeks ago I was told I could be made redundant. I have my suspicions as to the REAL reason why this was happening (I finally stood up for myself a couple of weeks earlier) but I'll never find out the truth so took it on the chin. Lots of people have this happen to them especially in recent times. It hasn't been the actual redundancy that's upset me, it has been the way it's come about, feeling pushed out and isolated when I'm in a team of around 20 people.

I hadn't wanted to tell anyone until I know myself, but as D-Day is looming I need to get it off my chest. Unfortunately when I left school I had no idea what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I'm not one of those lucky people who says at the age of 18, right I'm going to go be a lawyer/doctor/teacher now. I had absolutely no clue, felt incredibly useless and lost for 3 months before finding a local admin job.

Now I'm back in that place again, except 3 years older. Making me feel even more useless and frustrated that I don't have any idea what I want to do in the future. I got reasonable grades at school/sixth form but sadly wasn't one of those who could write an essay 30 minutes before class and get an A for it. My parents and friends are being incredibly supportive and trying to keep my spirits up, but I just feel like such a burden. And a miserable one at that.

Diabetes isn't my top priority at the moment (yes I know it should be) and it's showing. I'm still testing/injecting, but getting more emotional with any high/low results. Feeling like you're losing control of all aspects isn't nice but I'm determined to get back on it well in time for Christmas.

Thank you so so much to the people who are putting up with me at the moment <3

It's My Party And I'll Hypo If I Want To!

Last night was the first Summer work party (normally it's each department doing there own thing) so we all got a chance to dress up and mingle with new people. The weather was great, the food looked good and the drinks vouchers were out in force! We had an awesome photo booth for the night along with props - I did try and persuade Amy to go fo the Bob Marley hat and dreads but she wasn't having any of it!
I took my fake fur coat (aka pimp coat) along and later in the evening started getting a bit hot.. looked down and my hands were clammy and a bit twitchy.

FFS.

Tested my sugars and got a 3.6. I had my Mary Poppins bag with me and downed a few strawberry cheescake jelly beans and got back to mingling.

I wasn't going to let D spoil my night for all the tea in China!! Got home just before 11 and tested again. 5.1mmol. Did my Lantus and scooted off to bed.. lucky me had work from 9-5 to look forward to.. D didn't like me ignoring her at all one bit and soon got her revenge.

D: Emma it's 2am, better get up *evil grin*
Me: Zzzzz what for???
D: Remember that low you had at the party? Well you got another one, and it's even lower. Can't ignore me now can you.
Me: God you are a pain in the arse *tests BG*
Me: 2.8, you're such a bitch D
D: I know :)
Me: *scoffs down more strawberry cheesecake jelly beans and animal biscuits*
Me: FU D, I'm going sleep!

So I've paid the price today with a bit more low blood sugar, headache and mega sleepyness. Most people from the the party will have have woken up with a normal hangover.. me not wanting to feel left out woke up with a hypo one instead!!

How Do You Do It?

How do you explain D terminology to your friends/family when they have that 'Huh?' look on their faces after you test?

I had to explain hypo's and hypers to the girls at work yesterday, as I spent the majority of the morning under 4mmol. Luckily a few jelly beans did the trick along with the burger and chips I had for my dinner. YUMMY :D

My short way of explaining was hypo = low (with a low voice and hand gestures) and hyper = high (with high movement and more hand gestures). They know I keep jelly babies and coke etc in my top drawer but I think the look on their faces has made me realise that I need to keep a spare kit and instructions on what to do in an emergency, in my top drawer as well.

A few weeks ago I was talking with another colleague about First Aid and if something should ever happen to me. His answer was mouth-to-mouth and a Mars Bar! My mouth fell open and burst out laughing.. I said erm no thanks just call 999 and explain that I'm Type 1. I think I got a little leaflet from the JDRF pack that I can use so will definately be filling it in asap!

My sugars at the minute are still doing good during the day :) struggling a little with my Lantus still and injection sites in my upper leg, but over the past couple of nights I've upped it to 20-24u which seems to work although it's a big increase from the 14u I use for my stomache!

I'm doing more exercise now at the weekends going to the woods with Amy and her doggies (Robbie licking his nose and Basil behind him) for 1-2 hours which is great, especially as the weathers been so nice. Although leggings and pink wellies do look a bit weird xD

Only half a day at work tomorrow then off until next Monday! Looking forward to some baby lie-ins and doing a bit of Just Dance on the wii to shift some pounds!

xx
